Fernando - ABBA

Fernando là dĩa đơn của ABBA phát hành tháng 11/1975 và chỉ nội trong năm 1976 đã bán được 6 triệu bản, xếp hạng nhất ở 13 nước. Riêng ở Úc, lập kỷ lục đứng đầu bảng xếp hạng liên tiếp trong 14 tuần, vượt qua cả Hey Jude của ban nhạc huyền thoại Beatles (13 tuần)

Đây là dĩa đơn thành công nhất của ABBA, một trong số ít những dĩa đơn có số bán vượt 10 triệu bản xưa nay - Candle In The Wind của Elton John, White Christmas của Bing Crosby .. Ở Úc, khi được truyền hình trực tiếp trên TV, số lượng khán giả xem còn nhiều hơn số khán giả theo dõi vụ Amstrong và Aldrin đổ bộ lần đầu xuống mặt trăng.

Fernando đem lại thành công lớn cho nhóm như thế, về sau được đưa vào album ABBA: Greatest Hits, rồi Arrival và ABBA Gold: Greatest Hits, nhưng Fernando ban đầu vốn ko phải là một ca khúc của ABBA. Fernando do hai thành viên nam của nhóm Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson sáng tác (nhớ rằng họ ko chỉ sáng tác cho nhóm, cho các thành viên khác của nhóm mà còn cho nhiều ca sĩ Thụy Điển khác nữa), Stig Anderson, ông bầu của nhóm đặt lời Thụy Điển, nội dung là câu chuyện về một anh chàng thanh niên tên Fernando vừa bị thất tình,  và bản nhạc được dành cho album riêng của Anni-Frid Lyngstad có tên Frida Ensam, tiếng Thụy Điển có nghĩa Frida lẻ loi - Frida là tên thân mật của Anni-Frid. 

Sau thành công của Frida với bản tiếng Thụy Điển, nhóm bèn quyết định thu một phiên bản tiếng Anh. Ulvaeus viết lại lời tiếng Anh, câu chuyện được thay đổi nội dung, thành hồi ức của hai cựu chiến binh về thời trai trẻ khi tham gia cuộc cách mạng Mexico năm 1910 .. Dự định ban đầu ca khúc sẽ mang tên là Tango, trong quá trình soạn đổi là Hermandez, và phút chót trước khi thu mới quyết định lấy tên Fernando theo gợi ý của anh tài xế lái chiếc Limousine của họ. Và như đã thấy ABBA đã thắng lớn với Fernando. Dĩa hát này cũng đã được giải Best Studio Recording năm 1975, giải thưởng quốc tế đầu tiên của ABBA
